Summer Sprints: Boosting Speed for Pierre Governors' 11A S Players

๐Ÿ“ Pierre GovernorsยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Pierre Governors prepare for the 11A football season, speed and agility training are crucial for their S players. One effective drill to incorporate into your summer camp is the 'Resisted Shuttle Run.' This drill targets the quick change of direction and acceleration essential for S players in coverage and pursuit. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a resistance band anchored to one cone. Have the player start at the other cone, then sprint to the first cone, cutting sharply to change direction. As they reach the first cone, have them pull the resistance band to simulate the force of a receiver breaking a tackle. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the S player's ability to quickly change direction and maintain speed in pursuit of the ball carrier.
