Trojan Takedown: A Summer Drill for Dominant D-Line Play
As the summer heats up, the MBA Trojans' O-line is gearing up for a dominant season. One key drill that will help them take down opponents is the 'Trench Takedown.' This drill focuses on hand placement and leverage, essential for securing blocks and creating holes. To set up, pair OL players with a DL player. The OL player will start in a 3-point stance, with their hands inside the DL player's chest. The coach will call 'hike,' and the OL player must quickly secure a block, focusing on keeping their hands inside and their elbows high. The DL player will attempt to shed the block. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving hand placement, leverage, and reaction time, allowing OL players to secure blocks and create holes for their running backs.
