Speed and Agility Training for S Players: The 'L-Shape' Drill

๐Ÿ“ MBA TrojansยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At DII-AAA programs like the MBA Trojans, speed and agility training is crucial for S players to excel on the field. One effective drill to improve acceleration and change of direction is the 'L-Shape' drill. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards behind the second cone. Players start at the first cone, then accelerate to the second cone, decelerate, and quickly change direction to the third cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'explosive start,' 'aggressive cut,' and 'quick recovery.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to quickly accelerate and change direction, allowing them to stay with receivers and cover more ground. Incorporate the 'L-Shape' drill into your training regimen to give your S players a competitive edge.
