Boosting Kicking Distance at 6A Programs: The 'Step-Up' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Maryville RebelsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For kickers at 6A programs like Maryville Rebels, building leg strength and power is crucial for long-range field goals. The 'Step-Up' drill targets the glutes and hamstrings, translating to increased kicking distance. Set up a 3-step ladder on the field. Kicker starts at the bottom step, then steps up to the middle step, and finally to the top step, all while maintaining balance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Keep your back straight, engage your core, and drive through your heel.' As the kicker steps up, they should focus on quick turnover and explosive power. This drill will improve their ability to generate force and speed, resulting in increased kicking distance.
