Trojan QBs: Master the 'Read and React' Drill
At the start of summer camp, MBA Trojans quarterbacks will focus on the 'Read and React' drill to sharpen their decision-making skills. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the 'reader' and the other as the 'reactor'. The reader will call out a play (e.g., 'slant and go') while the reactor will respond with a specific action (e.g., 'slant' or 'go'). The reader will then react accordingly. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Read the defense, not the play' and 'React quickly, but not impulsively.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the quarterback's ability to read defenses and make split-second decisions, leading to more effective play-calling and reduced turnovers.
