Explosive Power for 6A RBs: The Tiger Trench Drill
This summer, Whitehaven Tigers' running backs will be putting in the work with the Tiger Trench Drill, a high-intensity exercise designed to improve explosive power and acceleration. The drill involves a series of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump over a series of small hurdles (12-18 inches high) spaced 3-4 yards apart. As they clear each hurdle, they must immediately plant their foot and accelerate forward, mimicking the quick change of direction required in a game. Coaching cues include 'explosive jump' and 'quick feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through holes, making them more effective in the open field. By incorporating the Tiger Trench Drill into their training regimen, Whitehaven's RBs will be ready to take on the best of the 6A competition this fall.
