Eagles' Edge: Developing Defensive End Speed with the 'Rapid Fire' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Brentwood Academy EaglesยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Brentwood Academy, our DII-AA Eagles are gearing up for another strong season, and a key component of their defensive line success is speed. To develop this critical attribute, we're incorporating the 'Rapid Fire' drill into our summer training regimen. This high-intensity exercise targets the quick twitch muscles of our defensive ends, preparing them for the fast-paced action of Friday nights. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, where players must explosively change direction and accelerate through a 5-yard cone course. Coaching cues emphasize 'quick feet' and 'fast hands,' with a focus on maintaining top-end speed. By mastering this drill, our DEs will be better equipped to chase down quarterbacks and disrupt opposing offenses.
