FridayNightPulse: LB Drill for 6A Programs
๐ Oakland PatriotsยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
For 6A linebackers, the 'Box Drill' is a crucial exercise to improve their agility, reaction time, and tackling ability. Set up a 5x5 foot box with cones or markers. Divide the linebackers into pairs, with one player as the 'ballcarrier' and the other as the 'tackler.' The ballcarrier starts at the edge of the box, while the tackler begins inside. The coach yells 'go' and the ballcarrier sprints towards the tackler. The tackler must quickly change direction and fill the hole. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles. Coaching cues include 'fill the hole,' 'stay low,' and 'wrap up.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the quick changes of direction and reaction times required to make tackles in the open field.
