Quarterback Pocket Awareness Drill for 6A Programs
As the 6A season approaches, quarterbacks at programs like Oakland Patriots must refine their pocket presence to evade defenders and extend plays. To improve this skill, implement the following drill: 'Pocket Awareness.' Set up a series of cones to form a 5-yard radius around the quarterback. On the coach's signal, the QB must drop back to the 10-yard line and avoid contact with the cones, mimicking a defender's approach. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Keep your eyes downfield,' 'Keep your weight back,' and 'Sell the fake.' This drill translates to game performance by increasing the QB's ability to read the defense and avoid sacks. By incorporating 'Pocket Awareness' into their pre-season training, Oakland Patriots quarterbacks can develop the skills necessary to thrive under pressure.
