Unlocking Defensive End Dominance: Gunter Tigers' Summer Camp Drill
For 3A defensive ends like the Gunter Tigers, dominating at the point of attack requires a combination of strength, speed, and technique. To prepare for the upcoming season, we're sharing a key drill to help DEs develop the skills needed to shut down opponents. The 'Shed and Chase' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Start in a 3-point stance, focus on exploding off the line with a powerful first step (emphasize 'drive through your back foot' and 'keep your eyes on the quarterback'). 2) Shed the block by using a quick inside move, keeping your hands up and active. 3) Chase down the quarterback or ball carrier, focusing on speed and agility. This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly penetrate the line and make plays in the backfield.
