Crash Course for 6A Tight Ends: The 'Anchor' Drill
Tight ends at 6A programs like North Shore Mustangs need to be versatile and reliable in the passing game. To improve their ability to secure contested catches, we recommend the 'Anchor' drill. Set up two lines of three cones, 5 yards apart, with a defender in between. The TE starts at the first cone, the defender at the second. On the coach's signal, the TE sprints to the second cone while the defender tries to stay in front. The TE must 'anchor' themselves to the defender, securing the catch with their hands and feet. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on footwork, body positioning, and ball security. This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to stay focused and physical in traffic, making them a reliable target for their QBs.
