Catching Up: 6A Tight End Drill for Lake Travis Cavaliers

๐Ÿ“ Lake Travis CavaliersยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Tight ends at 6A programs like Lake Travis Cavaliers need to be versatile and athletic. One drill that can improve their skills is the 'Route Box' drill. Set up four cones in a square formation, with each cone 5 yards apart. The TE starts at the center cone, and the coach or trainer calls out a route (e.g. 'Go' or 'Out'). The TE must quickly read the route and sprint to the corresponding cone. After reaching the cone, they must quickly change direction and sprint back to the center cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'Read the route, not the coach' and 'Fast feet, sharp cuts.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly read defenses and make sharp cuts on the field.
