FridayNightPulse: CB Dominance Drill for 5A Programs
For cornerbacks at 5A programs like Celina Bobcats, a key aspect of pre-season training is mastering the 'Mirror, Slide, Cover' drill. This drill focuses on footwork, agility, and reaction time. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone 5 yards from the quarterback's position. Divide players into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the cornerback. The receiver starts at the cone, and the cornerback begins at the quarterback's position. On the coach's signal, the receiver sprints to the quarterback, while the cornerback mirrors the receiver's movement. After 3-5 yards, the cornerback slides to the receiver's inside shoulder, covering the receiver. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving a cornerback's ability to stay with receivers on deep routes and react to quick cuts.
