Quarterback Readiness: Lake Travis Cavaliers' Pre-Season Focus

๐Ÿ“ Lake Travis CavaliersยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 6A quarterbacks, the summer is about refining their skills and building a strong foundation for the upcoming season. At Lake Travis Cavaliers, head coach, Chad Dunau, emphasizes the importance of footwork drills to improve pocket presence and decision-making. The '5-Step Drop Drill' targets this area. Set up five cones in a line, 5 yards apart. The quarterback starts at the first cone, taking 3 steps back and 2 steps forward, mimicking a 5-step drop. After each repetition, the quarterback must read the defense and throw to a designated receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes up, stay balanced, and throw with confidence.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching quarterbacks to stay calm under pressure and make quick decisions in the pocket, ultimately leading to more accurate throws and a higher completion percentage.
