Unlock Explosive Separation: WR Drill for 6A Programs
This summer, 6A WRs at top programs like Southlake Carroll can take their separation skills to the next level with a high-intensity drill. The 'Route Runner' drill focuses on quick cuts and changes of direction. Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, making a sharp cut to the left. Immediately, they change direction, cutting to the right at the third cone. Repeat this sequence, increasing speed and agility with each rep. Coaches should emphasize 'inside-out' footwork, keeping the inside foot pointed towards the cone. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly create separation and accelerate past defenders. By mastering the 'Route Runner,' 6A WRs will be unstoppable come fall.
