FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Aledo Bearcats-Style RB Drill

๐Ÿ“ Aledo BearcatsยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 5A running backs, building explosive speed and agility is crucial. The Aledo Bearcats' coaching staff has developed a drill to improve RBs' ability to change direction quickly and accelerate out of cuts. The 'Bearcat Box Drill' involves setting up four boxes (10 yards apart) in a square formation. Players start at one corner, then perform a 5-yard cut to the adjacent box, followed by a 10-yard dash to the next box, and finally a 5-yard cut to the final box. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands' and 'Accelerate out of the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders, making them more effective in the open field. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, 5A RBs can gain a competitive edge.
