Malik Taylor: From Setback to Spotlight
At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Malik Taylor is a force to be reckoned with on the DeSoto Eagles' 6A gridiron. Last season, the Class of 2027 tight end caught 22 passes for 312 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown reception in the Eagles' bi-district playoff loss to Allen. But Taylor's impressive stats belie a tougher road to success. A torn ACL in his sophomore year threatened to derail his promising career. Instead, Taylor worked tirelessly to rehab and rebuild his strength. The payoff came in the spring, when he earned a starting role for the Eagles. Now, Taylor is one of the most feared tight ends in the 6A classification, with scouts from top programs taking notice of his sure hands, reliable blocking and deep threat potential. As the Eagles prepare for the 2026 season, Taylor will be a key target for quarterback Jalen Thompson, and a major factor in DeSoto's quest for a district title.
