Maximizing Power in the Trenches: The 'Chain Reaction' Drill for OL Players
As the Lone Peak Knights prepare for the upcoming 6A season, their offensive line coach is emphasizing the importance of raw power in the trenches. One drill that's been making waves in their summer camp is the 'Chain Reaction' exercise. This drill is designed to build explosive strength and coordination in OL players. To set up the drill, pair OL players with a partner and have them stand shoulder-to-shoulder, holding a heavy chain or weighted bar. On the coach's signal, the players explosively drive into each other, creating a 'chain reaction' of force. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on speed and power. Coaching cues include 'Drive, don't pull' and 'Meet the ball with your feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to generate power and control at the point of attack, making them more effective in pass protection and run blocking.
