Improving Kicking Range for 6A Programs: The 'Skyward' Drill
As the 6A high school football season approaches, kickers at top programs like the Skyridge Falcons are working on building their range and accuracy. To target this, trainers can implement the 'Skyward' drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with each set targeting a different distance: 40, 50, and 60 yards. For each set, the kicker starts with their feet shoulder-width apart, then takes 3-4 steps back before kicking. Coaches should emphasize proper plant foot placement and follow-through on the kick. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to adjust to different field lengths and conditions. By practicing under pressure and with varying distances, kickers can build confidence and accuracy on long field goals.
