Maximizing Kicking Distance: The Lone Peak Knights' 6A Prep Drill

๐Ÿ“ Lone Peak KnightsยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the top 6A programs like Lone Peak Knights, kickers are constantly looking for ways to increase their distance and accuracy. One drill that has proven effective in pre-season preparation is the 'Step-Up, Plant, and Drive' drill. This drill targets the kicker's leg strength, hip flexor power, and foot speed. To set up, place a series of markers 10 yards apart, starting at 30 yards from the kicker. The kicker will step up to the first marker, plant their non-kicking foot, and drive through the ball with maximum force. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaches can cue the kickers to 'step up tall,' 'plant firm,' and 'drive through the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by increasing the kicker's ability to generate power and speed, resulting in longer field goals and extra points.
