Improving Quick Decision Making for 6A Quarterbacks
As the Skyridge Falcons prepare for the upcoming season, quarterback coaches are focusing on a key area of improvement: quick decision making. One drill that can help with this is the 'Read and React' drill. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the quarterback and the other as the 'defender'. The defender will line up in a specific coverage, such as man or zone, and the quarterback will read the coverage and react accordingly. The quarterback will start in the shotgun formation and the defender will start 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. The quarterback will drop back and read the defender's alignment, then make a quick decision to either throw a pass or take off running. The quarterback will complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. This drill translates to game performance by forcing the quarterback to make quick decisions under pressure, which is a crucial aspect of playing at the 6A level.
