Cavemen OL Summer Prep: Building a Stronger Anchor

๐Ÿ“ American Fork CavemenยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As American Fork prepares for the upcoming 6A season, one crucial aspect of their training is focusing on the linemen's foundation: the anchor. To build a stronger anchor, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Band and Chain' drill. Players will wear a weighted chain around their waist and perform 3 sets of 10 reps of a band-resisted stance hold. The key coaching cues are to maintain a wide base, engage the core, and resist the band's pull. This drill translates to game performance by improving the linemen's ability to absorb contact and maintain their position. The added weight of the chain simulates the impact of a defender's hit, allowing players to develop the strength and stability needed to anchor the Cavemen's offense.
