Speed and Agility for 4A Defensive Ends: The 'Ladder Shuffle' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Salem SpartansยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heats up, 4A defensive ends at programs like Salem Spartans are gearing up for a dominant season. To improve their speed, agility, and quickness, we recommend incorporating the 'Ladder Shuffle' drill into their training regimen. This drill involves setting up a ladder on the field and having the DE player perform a series of lateral shuffles through the ladder, focusing on quick footwork and change of direction. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'light on your feet' and 'explosive cuts.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to pursue ball carriers in space and make quick adjustments to the line of scrimmage. By incorporating the 'Ladder Shuffle' drill into their training, 4A defensive ends can gain a significant edge over their opponents.
