FridayNightPulse: Power Rush Drill for 5A Defensive Ends
Highland Springs Springers' defensive ends are gearing up for a dominant season, and we've got a drill to help them get there. The Power Rush Drill targets explosive acceleration and hand technique. Set up a 10-yard sprint lane with two cones. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line, planting their outside foot and extending their inside arm. They must 'rip' the ball with their inside hand, aiming for the quarterback's chest. After 5 reps, switch to the other side. Repeat for 3 sets. Coaching cues: 'Rip the ball, don't swipe it!' and 'Keep your eyes on the target!' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, hand speed, and overall pass rush efficiency. It's a must-add to any 5A defensive end's pre-season training regimen.
