Explosive Power for 6A RBs: The 'Bulldog Blast' Drill
At Westfield High School, our 6A Bulldogs are gearing up for another dominant season on the ground. To take their running back play to the next level, we're introducing the 'Bulldog Blast' drill. This explosive power exercise targets the key muscles used in breaking tackles and accelerating through holes. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: (1) Start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump up and land softly on the balls of your feet. (2) Immediately transition into a speed drill, sprinting 10 yards downfield. (3) Quickly change direction and accelerate back to the starting point. Coaching cue: 'Blast off like a rocket!' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, speed, and agility. It's a game-changer for RBs looking to break tackles and take it to the house.
