Maximizing Blocking Power: A 6A OL Drill for Oscar Smith Tigers
This summer, Oscar Smith Tigers' 6A OL players can dominate on the gridiron with the 'Anchor and Drive' drill. Set up a 10-yard line with cones, and divide OL into pairs. One player is the 'driver,' while the other is the 'anchorman.' The driver starts 5 yards behind the line, and the anchorman begins at the line. The driver must drive their teammate forward 5 yards, using proper blocking technique, while the anchorman maintains their stance and drives their feet into the ground. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Drive your feet,' 'Keep your hands inside,' and 'Anchors down.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to generate power and control in the trenches, allowing them to overpower defenders and create holes for the running back.
