CB Drills for Oscar Smith Tigers: 'Mirror, Mirror' Technique
This summer, Oscar Smith Tigers cornerbacks can expect to see a significant emphasis on the 'Mirror, Mirror' drill during training camp. The drill is designed to improve footwork and reaction time, two critical skills for cornerbacks in the 6A division. To set up the drill, divide the players into pairs with one player acting as the receiver and the other as the cornerback. The receiver will start at the line of scrimmage, while the cornerback will begin in a backpedal position. On the coach's signal, the receiver will run a 5-yard out route, and the cornerback must mirror the receiver's movements, staying one step behind. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the receiver' and 'stay one step behind.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop the quick reactions and agility necessary to stay with receivers on out routes and other quick passes.
