Spartan Shutdown: CB Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Salem SpartansยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Salem Spartans are gearing up for a dominant 4A season, and their cornerbacks are a key part of the equation. To help them develop the skills needed to shut down opponents, we're sharing a crucial drill for CBs. The 'Shadow Stance' drill focuses on quick changes of direction and staying in phase with the receiver. Set up a series of cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have the CB start in a backpedal stance, then quickly change direction to mirror the receiver's movement. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay low, stay tight, and stay on the receiver's hip.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to stay in phase with the receiver and quickly react to changes in direction.
