QB Quick Release Drill for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Westfield BulldogsยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A powerhouse Westfield Bulldogs, quarterback development is a top priority. One drill that's been making waves in the offseason is the 'Quick Release' drill, designed to improve accuracy and decision-making under pressure. Here's how to run it: Set up 3-4 stations with a coach or trainer at each. Quarterbacks will start at each station, with a focus on their throwing mechanics. On the whistle, they'll release a quick pass (5-7 yards) to a receiver. The twist? Each station will have a different level of defender pressure (e.g. light, medium, heavy). Reps: 3 sets of 10 reps per station. Coaching cues: 'Release the ball before the defender touches you,' 'Step into the throw,' and 'Follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the high-pressure situations quarterbacks face, forcing them to stay calm and make quick decisions.
