FridayNightPulse: Tight End Summer Training for 6A Powerhouses
As the summer heat intensifies, 6A teams like Westfield Bulldogs are putting in the work to develop their tight end corps. One effective drill for TEs to improve their route-running and separation skills is the 'Ladder Cuts' drill. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 feet between each rung. Have the TE start at the bottom of the ladder and perform a 3-point stance. On the coach's signal, the TE must quickly cut through the ladder, focusing on footwork and body control. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'change of direction.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders. It's a valuable addition to any TE's summer training regimen.
