Power Through Contact: A RB Drill for D-II Programs
At Rice Green Knights, our running backs are gearing up for a dominant season with a key drill that translates to game performance: the 'Power Through Contact' (PTC) drill. This exercise targets RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain speed through contact. To run the PTC drill: Set up 3 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have RBs start at the first cone and sprint to the second, where they'll encounter a defender (coach or trainer) with their hands up. The RB must lower their center of gravity, drive through the defender, and maintain top-end speed to the third cone. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, focusing on proper tackling technique and explosive acceleration. This drill improves RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain speed through contact, a crucial skill for success in D-II football.
