Game-Changing CB Drill for D-II Programs
At Middlebury Tigers summer camp, cornerbacks will be put through a demanding 'Reaction and Speed' drill to improve their game-changing abilities. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between each set. Players will start in a 3-point stance, 10 yards off the line of scrimmage, and react to a coach's whistle, sprinting to the ball carrier. Upon reaching the receiver, they must quickly change direction and chase the ball carrier for 5 yards. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the prize' and 'stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by mimicking the quick reactions and bursts of speed required to stay with receivers on deep routes and close gaps to the ball carrier. By mastering this drill, CBs will be better equipped to make game-changing plays and secure crucial turnovers.
