FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Sticky Coverage' Drill for CBs

๐Ÿ“ Rice Green KnightsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For D-II cornerbacks like those on the Rice Green Knights, mastering 'sticky coverage' is crucial. To improve this skill, run the following drill: Set up a 10-yard zone with a receiver at the 5-yard line. The CB starts at the 10-yard line, 5 yards off the receiver. On the coach's signal, the CB sprints to the receiver, staying within 2-3 yards of them. The receiver makes a 5-yard cut, and the CB must adjust their speed and angle to maintain contact. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Stay on their hip,' 'Keep your eyes on the receiver,' and 'Adjust your speed.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching CBs to stay tight on receivers, even when they make quick cuts. It also improves reaction time and footwork.
