Speed and Agility for S Players: The 'Ladder to the Hole' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Rice Green KnightsยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For D-II programs like Rice Green Knights, speed and agility are crucial for S players to excel on the field. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 'Ladder to the Hole' exercise. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Have S players start at the top of the ladder and perform a lateral shuffle to the first rung, then immediately drop down to a squat position and explosively jump up to the next rung. Repeat this process, moving laterally through the ladder. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive power.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly change direction and explosively close gaps, making them more effective defenders.
