Rutland Raiders RB Drill: Building Speed and Agility

๐Ÿ“ Rutland RaidersยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the D-I level, running backs need to be explosive, agile, and able to change direction quickly. To improve these skills, the Rutland Raiders coaching staff has implemented a drill that targets speed and agility. The 'Ladder Shuttle' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps. Players start in a 3-point stance, then sprint through a ladder set up in a zig-zag pattern. After completing the ladder, they immediately change direction and sprint back through the ladder in the opposite direction. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive acceleration.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders, creating opportunities for big gains.
