Tiger Takedown: Middlebury WRs Prepare for Season with Route Running Drill
Middlebury Tigers wide receivers are gearing up for the D-II season with a series of intense route running drills. The 'Tiger Takedown' drill focuses on quick releases and sharp cuts, mirroring the high-speed action of a live game. Coaches will split the receivers into pairs, with one player as the 'receiver' and the other as the 'cornerback.' The receiver will start at the line of scrimmage, and on the snap, they must quickly release to a designated spot 5-7 yards downfield. The cornerback will attempt to stay in phase, using a 'soft pedal' technique to stay close. The receiver will then make a sharp cut to a designated spot, using a 'dig' or 'out' route. Coaches will provide real-time feedback on footwork, hand placement, and release timing. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to quickly separate from defenders and make sharp, precise cuts.
