FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Middlebury Tigers RB Drill

๐Ÿ“ Middlebury TigersยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve RB speed and agility, the Middlebury Tigers coaching staff has implemented a 'Ladder Weave and Crossover' drill. This drill targets the quick change of direction and acceleration required for RBs in D-II football. Set up a ladder with 5-6 rungs and have the RBs perform the following sequence: 3 sets of 10 reps of lateral weaves through the ladder, followed by 3 sets of 10 reps of crossover drills (step over the ladder with one foot and quickly switch to the other). Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'explosive acceleration.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the RB's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through holes in the defense. It also enhances their ability to make sharp cuts and accelerate away from defenders.
