FridayNightPulse: LB Drills for D-II Dominance - Rice Green Knights Style
This summer, D-II LBs at Rice High School are focusing on the 'Shuttle-Boxer' drill to improve their speed, agility, and reaction time. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: (1) Shuttle runs (5 yards) with a 30-degree change of direction, (2) Boxer jumps (12 inches) with a focus on explosive power, and (3) Reaction sprints (10 yards) after a coach's whistle. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, fast feet' during shuttle runs, 'Explosive up' during boxer jumps, and 'Quick reaction' during reaction sprints. This drill translates to game performance by requiring LBs to rapidly change direction, explosively close gaps, and react quickly to ball carriers. By mastering the Shuttle-Boxer drill, Rice Green Knights LBs will be better equipped to dominate on the field this fall.
