Speed and Agility for 4A S Players: The 'Ladder Crossover' Drill

As the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles prepare for the upcoming 4A football season, speed and agility training is crucial for their S players. One effective drill to improve cutting ability and quickness is the 'Ladder Crossover'. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Players start in a 3-point stance, then perform a lateral shuffle through the ladder, focusing on keeping their feet inside the rungs. Next, they perform a crossover step, bringing the opposite foot over the other. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'aggressive crossover'. This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly change direction and maintain speed while covering receivers. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, making them more effective defenders.
