Power Punch: A Drill to Build 4A OL Strength
The Skyline Spartans' 4A program is gearing up for a dominant season, and a key component of their success will be the strength and agility of their linemen. One drill that will help OL players build the power and speed they need to take on opposing defenses is the 'Power Punch' drill. This drill involves three sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest period between sets. Players will start in a neutral stance, then quickly drop into a three-point stance and punch the ground with their dominant hand, followed by a rapid-fire series of punches with their other hand. Coaching cues include 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Punch the ground, not the air.' This drill translates to game performance by building explosive power and improving hand speed, allowing OL players to dominate in the trenches and create holes for their running backs.
