Tyler Smith Commits to Texas Tech
Eastside Catholic safety Tyler Smith has committed to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The 3A Crusader standout will join the Red Raiders' secondary in 2027. Smith cited the team's aggressive defensive scheme as a key factor in his decision, stating it aligns with his playing style. He also praised the program's depth chart opportunities, noting he'll have a chance to compete for a starting role. Additionally, Smith was drawn to Texas Tech's academic program, which offers a strong engineering curriculum. Smith initially committed to the University of Washington in February 2025, but reopened his recruitment in April 2026. He will participate in Texas Tech's summer camp before enrolling in the fall. Smith's commitment adds to the Red Raiders' 2027 recruiting class, which currently ranks among the top in the Big 12 Conference.
