Route Running for 3A WRs: Bellevue Wolverines' Summer Camp Focus
This summer, Bellevue Wolverines' wide receivers will be honing their route running skills with a drill designed to improve their ability to separate from defenders and create separation at the point of attack. The drill, called 'Shimmy and Slide,' involves setting up two cones 5 yards apart, with a defender stationed at the line of scrimmage. The receiver starts at the line, shimmies to the inside, and then slides to the outside, all while maintaining a high level of speed and agility. Coaches will provide verbal cues such as 'shimmy, slide, go' to emphasize the importance of quick footwork and body control. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing receivers to create separation and get open quickly, even in tight spaces. It also improves their ability to adjust to different coverage schemes and defenders.
