Skyline Spartans CBs: Master the 'Shadow Shuffle' Drill for Pre-Season Success
๐ Skyline SpartansยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
As the Skyline Spartans prepare for the upcoming 4A season, cornerbacks must refine their footwork and reaction time. The 'Shadow Shuffle' drill is a crucial component of any CB's training regimen. Set up a series of cones, 5 yards apart, in a zig-zag pattern. Start at the first cone and shuffle laterally, keeping your feet close to the ground, while maintaining a 'shadow' position on the receiver. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick, light steps. Coaching cues: 'Stay low, stay light, stay on the receiver's hip.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a CB's ability to mirror receivers and stay in phase, allowing for better ball recognition and pass deflection opportunities.
