Quarterback Readiness: The '7-Step Drop' Drill for 3A QBs
Summer is the perfect time for 3A quarterbacks to hone their skills, and one drill that can make a significant impact is the '7-Step Drop'. This drill focuses on developing a smooth, consistent dropback and improving decision-making under pressure. To run the drill, set up 7 cones in a straight line, spaced 5 yards apart. QBs will start at the first cone and take 7 steps back, focusing on proper footwork and body positioning. After reaching the 7th cone, they'll plant and throw to a target. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Keep your eyes up, stay balanced', and 'Step into the throw, don't reach'. This drill translates to game performance by allowing QBs to develop muscle memory and confidence in their dropback, ultimately leading to more accurate and timely throws.
