Quarterback Readiness: The 'Quick Game' Drill for 3A Programs

๐Ÿ“ O'Dea Fighting IrishยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat begins to dissipate, 3A quarterbacks like those at O'Dea Fighting Irish are gearing up for another competitive season. One drill that can help sharpen their skills is the 'Quick Game' drill. This exercise focuses on rapid decision-making and accuracy under pressure. To set up, divide your quarterbacks into pairs with one ball per pair. Have them line up 10 yards apart, with one player in the 'shotgun' formation and the other in a 'split' receiver position. On the coach's signal, the quarterback must quickly read the defense and deliver a short pass to the receiver. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Quick eyes, quick release' and 'Read the defense, not the receiver.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the high-pressure situations that quarterbacks face in the 3A playoffs.
