Fighting Irish Speed: A 3A S-Player Drill for Summer Camp

๐Ÿ“ O'Dea Fighting IrishยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At O'Dea Fighting Irish summer camp, S-players will focus on the 'Shuttle Sprint' drill to improve reaction time and speed. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with another pair 10 yards apart, forming an 'L' shape. Players start at the rear cone, then sprint to the front cone, change direction, and sprint back to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, fast hands' and 'Change direction, don't change speed.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the quick reactions required to cover receivers and respond to quarterback scrambles. It also improves acceleration and deceleration, essential for S-players in 3A football.
