Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-10-5 Shuttle Drill
For S players at 5A programs like the Kaukauna Ghosts, speed and agility are crucial components of their game performance. To improve these skills, we recommend incorporating the 5-10-5 shuttle drill into your summer training regimen. This drill will help S players develop the quickness, change of direction, and acceleration needed to stay one step ahead of opponents. To set up the drill, mark two lines 5 yards apart and a third line 10 yards away from the second line. Have the player start at the first line, then sprint to the second line, change direction, and sprint back to the first line. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include keeping the head up, staying low, and exploding out of the change of direction. This drill translates to game performance by allowing S players to quickly close gaps and make tackles, making it a valuable addition to any summer training program.
