As the inaugural 2028 season approaches, the University of Nebraska's flag football program, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is gaining attention from top multisport female athletes in Wisconsin. For Waunakee Warrior standout, Emily Johnson, the decision to pivot to flag football is driven by the opportunity to earn a scholarship and compete at the NCAA Division 1 level. Johnson, a multisport athlete with a strong background in track and field, is exploring verified scholarship programs at the University of Nebraska, Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida. With up to 12 scholarships available at Ottawa University, Johnson is also considering the NAIA powerhouse. To capitalize on these opportunities, Johnson is focusing on creating a highlight tape and reaching out to coaches at these institutions to discuss her qualifications and potential fit.
