FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for Muskego Warriors
Tight ends at 7A programs like Muskego Warriors need to be well-rounded athletes with exceptional receiving and blocking skills. One effective drill to improve their route running and footwork is the 'Route Box Drill'. Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. Set up a 10-yard box with cones, with four different routes marked: in, out, deep, and corner. The receiver must run each route 3 times, while the defender tries to stay in front of them. After each set, switch roles and repeat. Coaches should focus on proper footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders. Aim for 3-4 sets with 3-4 reps each, 2-3 times a week.
