FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for 7A Programs
At top 7A programs like Muskego Warriors, tight ends must be prepared to excel in both the passing and running games. To improve their blocking technique and increase their speed off the line, coaches can implement the 'Box Drill'. Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. Set up a box with cones, 3-4 yards wide and 5-6 yards deep. The blocker must start in a 3-point stance, then explode off the line, hitting the defender in the box. The defender must react quickly and try to get around the block. Run 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between reps. Coach the tight ends to keep their hands inside, drive their feet, and use their hips to generate power. This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight ends' ability to seal the edge and create space for the quarterback.
